Fried chicken holds a special place in Filipino culture, blending local and international flavors. Introduced through American influence during the early 20th century, it quickly became a beloved dish. Over time, Filipinos added their own twists, like pairing it with rice or gravy. For kids, fried chicken is a favorite comfort food, often served at family gatherings, birthdays, and school lunches, making it a symbol of joy and togetherness.

Why buy it when you can make it at home? Here are the simple ingredients.

Ingredients:
1 fryer chicken (either purchased pre-cut, recommended, or whole and broken down into pieces)
3 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tbsp kosher salt
2 tsp pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
Vegetable oil

Procedure:
In a big bowl, whisk the eggs. In another bowl, mix salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to make a spice mix. Put the flour in a third bowl.

To prepare the chicken, season each piece with the spice mix. Dip the chicken in the egg, then coat it well in the flour.

Heat a large pot or deep fryer with oil to 350ยฐF. Fry the chicken until it’s crispy and golden brown. Thighs and legs will need about 15 minutes to cook, while breasts and wings will take about 10 minutes.

Take the chicken out, let it cool for 5 minutes, and enjoy!
